Jessica Bartram Design & Illustration

I'm an illustrator and designer currently working on a BA in Graphic Design & Illustration (convenient, eh?). My work can be found here (illustration & art), or here (graphic design, mostly). Videos related to my work can be seen over on my Vimeo page

This is a blog on which process shots and final versions of both personal and school-prompted projects appear, as well as selected photographs (many from my phone - only the good ones, I promise).

If you have any questions/are interested in a commission for either art or design, please email me at jess [at] thecommonwealthstudio [dot] ca.

More progress shots from the project in this post - the whole thing has evolved to exist in the three-dimensional world as well as on the computer screen, which is exceptionally entertaining.

I’m building dioramas (more on those later), taking photos of interesting textures (ditto) and, inspired by the aesthetic of Alexander Calder’s Circus (one of my most favourite art-things in the whole wide world) I’m creating the Daring Young Man himself, a dapper and moustachioed gent who loves nothing more than to swing, tumble and amaze from his flying trapeze!

I’m looking forward to getting this stage of the project done, as it just keeps getting more tactile and Calder-y (if I may be so bold as to compare myself to such a fantastic artist).

It was an added stroke of luck that my prof for this course was charmed by Calder’s work and enthusiastic about me going in this particular direction (and thankfully he gave the thumbs-up to my first two finished dioramas, which was encouraging).

Have I mentioned that art school is fun? Because damn. Art school is FUN.
